Role Overview
Inspect castings and forgings against customer specifications and drawings at various stages of the casting process.
Ensure product dimensions meet customer requirements.
Dimensional Inspection
- Carry out dimensional inspection of castings according to drawings and specifications.
- Measure and accept products according to ISO 8062, customer requirements, or drawings.
- Perform visual inspection of sample castings and forgings.
- Conduct bulk casting and forging audit inspections related to dimensional inspection.
- Verify casting marking and lettering against customer drawings and specifications.
Equipment and Calibration
- Maintain measuring and test equipment in the inspection area and verify calibration status.
Non-Conformance and Corrective Action
- Coordinate corrective action with relevant departments when dimensional deviations occur.
- Follow up on dimensional corrections against dimensional reports for non-conforming castings.
- Monitor the effectiveness of dimensional non-conformance reports.
Documentation and Standards
- Maintain dimensional inspection reports and related documentation.
- Develop or assist the QC Engineer in developing dimensional inspection standards.
Education and Experience
- ITI, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or a similar qualification is preferred.
- At least five years of dimensional inspection experience is required.
- Steel casting or forging industry experience is essential.
Certifications
- ASNT Level II NDE certification in Visual Inspection is essential.
- ASNT Level II NDE certification in MT or PT inspection is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with inspection equipment and quality standards is required.
- The role requires interpretation of engineering drawings, GD&T, and ISO, ASME, and ASTM standards.
- Knowledge of moulding and core assembly is essential.
- CMM inspection and programming experience is preferred.
