About the Team
OpenAI’s Robotics team develops general-purpose robotics by integrating hardware and software across dynamic real-world systems.
The team works across mechanical, electrical, fabrication, experimental, and AI domains.
About the Role
Develop, build, test, and iterate on robotic systems in partnership with hardware and software teams.
The role supports rapid, high-quality iteration on new robotics hardware concepts and systems.
The role is based in San Francisco, California, and is in person five days per week.
In This Role
- Support prototype development, experimentation, and hardware iteration with engineers and researchers.
- Build, modify, troubleshoot, and repair robotic systems and electromechanical assemblies.
- Design and fabricate fixtures, adapters, test equipment, and prototype hardware.
- Execute low-volume builds, engineering changes, and rework across robotic systems.
- Build and rework wire harnesses, custom electronics, and other prototype hardware.
- Develop and support hardware experiments.
- Maintain lab equipment, tooling, inventory, and workspaces.
- Improve build quality, repeatability, documentation, and lab efficiency.
