Role Purpose
Own the product's physical architecture, component packaging, mounting, serviceability, and manufacturability.
The role is a Mechanical Product Design Engineer position requiring at least 5 years of experience.
Mechanical Design Responsibilities
- Convert system requirements into complete mechanical product designs.
- Design fixed roadside, tripod-mounted, and various other equipment configurations.
- Design enclosures for IP65, IP66, or IP67 protection levels.
- Calculate internal heat generation and thermal dissipation.
- Design passive cooling, heat sinking, conduction paths, forced ventilation, or heat exchangers.
- Design sheet-metal components with bends, flanges, hems, stiffeners, brackets, weldments, and mounting plates.
- Design machined, formed, welded, and fabricated components.
- Perform tolerance stack-up and define manufacturing tolerances.
- Design access panels, hinges, covers, latches, adjustment mechanisms, brackets, and service interfaces.
- Design against vibration, impact, wind loading, handling damage, and mechanical fatigue.
Required Competencies
- Use three-dimensional CAD and mechanical drawing techniques.
- Produce fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, exploded views, and bills of materials.
