Principal Instrumentation Engineer

Job Purpose

Engineering and Design

• Lead and review instrumentation and control engineering deliverables for oil and gas projects.
• Review instrument indexes, I/O lists, control philosophies, cause and effect diagrams, datasheets, hook-up drawings, cable schedules, loop drawings, junction box schedules, and control system architecture drawings.
• Ensure compliance with ADNOC, IEC, ISA, API, and international engineering practices.
• Review FEED and detailed engineering deliverables prepared by EPC contractors.
• Support optimization of control systems, field instrumentation, and automation philosophies.

Control Systems and Automation

• Review DCS, ESD, F&G, SCADA, and PLC system engineering documents.
• Coordinate interfaces with telecom, electrical, process, and mechanical disciplines.
• Review system integration philosophies and control narratives.
• Evaluate SIL studies, alarm management philosophies, and applicable cybersecurity requirements.
• Review FAT and SAT procedures and vendor technical documentation.

Vendor and Project Coordination

• Coordinate package instrumentation and control requirements with vendors.
• Review vendor documents and ensure timely resolution of comments.
• Support technical bid evaluations and vendor selection processes.
• Monitor EPC contractor engineering progress and quality.
• Participate in HAZOP, SIL, constructability, and design review workshops.

Construction and Site Support

• Provide engineering clarification and technical support to site teams when required.
• Review technical queries, deviations, and site engineering issues.
• Support pre-commissioning and commissioning teams during system checks and startup activities when required.
• Occasional site visits may be required for technical verification and coordination.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering or an equivalent qualification from an accredited university.
• At least 15 years of relevant oil and gas or petrochemical experience.
• At least 5 years in a similar position on major oil and gas or petrochemical projects.
• ADNOC project experience is required.
• Offshore project experience is required.
• FEED and EPC phase experience is required.
• PMC experience is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of DCS, ESD, F&G systems, smart field instrumentation, SIL and functional safety, control system architecture, industrial communication protocols, and instrument sizing and selection.
• Familiarity with SPI / SmartPlant Instrumentation, Aveva Engineering, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
