Join AECOM's multidisciplinary UK Water Team as a Principal Hydraulic Modeller focused on flood risk, hydrology, and hydraulic modelling.
Act as a senior technical leader and advisor while supporting project delivery, team capability, and business growth.
The role supports large-scale, multidisciplinary water projects delivered with clients and teams across the AECOM network.
Key responsibilities
- Lead technical approaches and methodologies for hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and flooding projects.
- Deliver and oversee complex, high-profile projects and provide specialist input to studies and designs.
- Review calculations, models, technical outputs, specifications, reports, and design documentation.
- Develop cost estimates, technical effort estimates, project budgets, and schedules.
- Provide strategic technical guidance to clients and mentor junior and mid-level staff.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, GIS, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Chartered membership of ICE, CIWEM, or an equivalent professional body.
- Extensive experience in hydraulic modelling, hydrology, GIS, or data analysis, including ArcGIS.
- Significant experience with fluvial, pluvial, and integrated hydraulic modelling.
- Proven technical leadership on complex modelling and hydrology projects within water consultancy.
Technical and professional skills
- Experience with Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller, or TUFLOW.
- Ability to develop methodologies, manage technical delivery, and influence project outcomes.
- Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and contribute effectively in a deadline-driven environment.
