AECOM is hiring a Principal Hydraulic Modeller for its Water Team in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The role provides senior technical leadership for hydraulic modelling, hydrology, flooding, and water consultancy projects.

The team delivers multidisciplinary water programmes and projects for government, contractors, charities, and water companies.

Key responsibilities

  • Act as a technical lead and subject matter expert for hydraulic modelling, hydrology, and flooding projects.
  • Lead technical approaches, methodologies, project delivery, and complex problem-solving.
  • Deliver and oversee high-profile projects and provide specialist input to studies and designs.
  • Lead interdisciplinary reviews and quality assurance of calculations, models, and technical outputs.
  • Prepare and review specifications, reports, design documentation, budgets, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Provide strategic technical guidance to clients and mentor junior and mid-level staff.
  • Support team growth, capability development, and a positive team culture.

Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Environmental Sciences, GIS, Geography, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered membership of ICE, CIWEM, or an equivalent professional body.
  • Extensive hydraulic modelling, hydrology, GIS, or data analysis experience, including ArcGIS.
  • Significant fluvial, pluvial, and integrated hydraulic modelling experience using platforms such as Innovyze ICM, Flood Modeller, or TUFLOW.
  • Technical leadership experience on complex modelling and hydrology projects.
  • Strong water consultancy, methodology development, technical delivery, communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement experience.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a dynamic, deadline-driven team environment.
