Role Overview

AECOM's Water team is seeking a senior flood modeller to deliver hydraulic, hydrological, and water quality modelling projects.

The role supports flood alleviation schemes, flood risk assessments, reservoir studies, and wider flood risk management projects across the UK and potentially further afield.

The position provides senior technical guidance and mentorship to more junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and check hydraulic models using Flood Modeller, TUFLOW, MIKE, HEC-RAS, ICM, and related packages.
  • Develop water quality models using tools such as MIKE, Delft3D, SIMCAT, or ICM.
  • Scope modelling approaches and assess project risks and opportunities.
  • Undertake hydrological assessments using the Flood Estimation Handbook, ReFH2, and WINFAP.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders, mentor staff, build client relationships, and monitor relevant legislation.
  • Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed programmes and budgets using project management systems.

Qualifications

  • Significant hydraulic and water quality modelling software experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for flood risk assessment models is required.
  • Basic understanding of fresh-water quality and associated regulatory standards is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline is required.
  • Obtained or near-to-obtaining CIWEM or similar professional qualification is required.
  • Python, Anaconda, or Ruby knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Strong communication, autonomy, commitment, and willingness to learn are expected.
