Role overview

AECOM is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer for a technical and project leadership role across major building and infrastructure projects.

The role spans defence, education, health, commercial, aviation, and other project sectors.

The position combines hands-on technical delivery with client engagement and discipline development responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead fire protection design and delivery from early concept and detailed design through construction support and commissioning.
  • Provide technical input across hydrants, hose reels, sprinklers, alternative suppression, gas suppression, detection, and EWIS systems.
  • Oversee design compliance with the NCC, Australian Standards, and relevant authorities.
  • Build client relationships, support project acquisition, and contribute to business development.
  • Mentor engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated building solutions.
  • Contribute to national discipline strategy, technical standards, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications and experience

  • Ideally, 9+ years of fire protection or services engineering experience in consultancy, government, or contracting environments.
  • Experience leading medium to large multidisciplinary projects and coordinating project teams.
  • Strong capability across fire suppression, fire water infrastructure, fire detection, alarm, and EWIS systems.
  • Ability to manage client relationships, contribute to bids, and lead project outcomes.
  • Relevant engineering degree with NER, RPEQ, or FPAS Fire Systems Design accreditation, or eligibility to obtain.
  • Experience with Hyena, Revizto, Revit, or AutoCAD.
  • Australian Citizenship is highly preferred due to project requirements.
