About the Role

Own the aircraft electric drive system, including the motor, inverter and drive controls.

Ensure performance, thermal behaviour, electromagnetic compatibility and fault response for electric propulsion drives.

Work closely with systems, electrical, avionics, battery and powertrain engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own electric motor and inverter architecture, rating and derating for continuous and peak operating requirements.
  • Lead drive control development, including torque and speed response, control bandwidth, limits, derating and fault handling.
  • Define high-voltage system electrical interfaces, including DC input behaviour, inrush, pre-charge and transients.
  • Lead EMC and EMI design covering switching, filtering, shielding, bonding and return paths.
  • Define thermal requirements through loss modelling, heat rejection and cooling analysis.
  • Support drive failure-mode analysis, fault detection and fault containment for system safety assessments.
  • Direct motor and inverter suppliers through qualification and acceptance testing.
  • Lead dynamometer, thermal, transient and fault testing and use results to improve designs.

Required Experience

  • 10+ years in electrical machines, power electronics or motor drive engineering, including airborne or other safety-critical applications.
  • Proven ownership of motor or inverter design, development or rating for a high-power application.
  • Strong electrical machine design knowledge, including topology selection, electromagnetic analysis and validation.
  • Strong power electronics knowledge covering converter topologies, switching strategies, loss modelling and thermal management.
  • Deep electric drive control knowledge, including torque response, architecture, limits and fault behaviour.
  • Experience with EMC/EMI engineering in safety-critical systems.
  • Experience with dynamometer or equivalent electric drive testing and applying test results to design improvements.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with eVTOL or electric aircraft propulsion systems.
  • Experience with distributed electric propulsion and multiple-drive architectures.
  • Experience with DO-160 environmental and electromagnetic qualification.
  • Experience with high-power-density electric machine design and advanced cooling systems.
  • Advanced degree in electrical machines, power electronics or a related discipline.

Location and Workplace

  • The role is based in the United Arab Emirates.
  • The posting identifies the role as onsite.
