Role overview

Join AECOM’s Water team as a Principal or Associate Flood Forecasting Modeller.

Lead teams delivering real-time flood forecasting projects and support wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling work.

Work collaboratively with engineers and consultants on water projects across the UK and Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports and assess existing models and hydrometric data.
  • Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models including PDM and Flood Modeller.
  • Perform non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH methods.
  • Prepare technical reports covering model builds and uncertainties.
  • Lead or contribute to client tenders, mentor colleagues, and build client relationships.
  • Use project management systems to deliver work on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Significant flood forecasting modelling experience, particularly with Flood Modeller.
  • Strong knowledge of Environment Agency requirements and compatible forecasting systems.
  • Experience applying and calibrating hydrological models and analysing hydrometric data.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo.
  • Scripting knowledge in Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar is advantageous.
  • Ability to work autonomously and contribute in a deadline-driven team.
