Role overview

AECOM's Water team is seeking a Principal or Associate Flood Forecasting Modeller in Croydon.

The role is a senior technical position leading teams on real-time flood forecasting projects and supporting wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling work.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports and assess existing models and hydrometric data.
  • Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models including PDM and Flood Modeller.
  • Complete non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH methods.
  • Produce technical reports documenting model builds and uncertainties.
  • Lead or contribute to client tenders and mentor team members.
  • Build client and cross-disciplinary relationships and stay current with relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Use project management systems to deliver outputs on time and within budget.

Required qualifications and experience

  • Significant experience in flood forecasting modelling, especially Flood Modeller.
  • Strong knowledge of Environment Agency requirements and forecasting systems compatibility.
  • Experience applying and calibrating hydrological models and analysing hydrometric data.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo.
  • Scripting knowledge in Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or a similar language is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, autonomous, committed to deadlines, and willing to learn.
