Role overview

Join AECOM’s Water team as a Principal or Associate Flood Forecasting Modeller.

Lead teams delivering real-time flood forecasting projects for the Environment Agency and other clients.

Work will also include wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, including assessments of existing models and hydrometric data.
  • Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models such as PDM and Flood Modeller.
  • Carry out non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11, and FEH methods.
  • Produce and review technical reports that document model builds and associated uncertainties.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders for key clients.
  • Mentor team members and build strong client and cross-disciplinary relationships.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant legislation and guidelines.
  • Use project management systems to deliver outputs on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in flood forecasting modelling, particularly Flood Modeller.
  • Strong knowledge of Environment Agency requirements and forecasting systems.
  • Experience applying and calibrating hydrological models such as Muskingum-Cunge and PDM.
  • Experience analysing hydrometric data, including gauge rating reviews.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo, or similar tools.
  • Scripting knowledge in Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or a similar tool is advantageous.
  • Ability to work autonomously and contribute effectively in a deadline-driven team.
