Role Overview

AECOM is seeking a Principal or Associate to join its growing Water team.

The role provides senior technical leadership on real-time flood forecasting projects.

The primary focus is flood forecasting, with opportunities to support wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and review Flood Forecasting Inception Stage Reports, including model and hydrometric data quality assessments.
  • Develop, calibrate and check flood forecasting models such as PDM and Flood Modeller.
  • Carry out non-real-time modelling and hydrological analysis using Flood Modeller, ICM, HEC-RAS, MIKE 11 and FEH methods.
  • Produce and review technical reports covering model builds and uncertainties.
  • Lead and contribute to tenders for key clients.
  • Mentor team members and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Use project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs on time and within budget.

Requirements

  • Significant Flood Modeller flood forecasting modelling experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements and Incident Management Forecasting Systems is required.
  • Experience applying and calibrating hydrological models and analysing hydrometric data is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline is required.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and/or MapInfo are required.
  • Practical scripting knowledge in Python, Anaconda, Ruby or a similar language is advantageous.
  • Candidates should be self-motivated and able to work autonomously in a deadline-driven team.
