Role overview

Join AECOM's Water team as a Principal or Associate in a senior technical role focused on real-time flood forecasting.

Support wider hydrology and non-real-time modelling projects while helping expand services for the Environment Agency and other clients.

Responsibilities

  • Lead teams delivering real-time flood forecasting projects.
  • Produce and review inception reports and assess model and hydrometric data quality.
  • Develop, calibrate, and check flood forecasting models.
  • Perform hydrological analysis and non-real-time modelling using specialist tools and methods.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting model builds and uncertainties.
  • Lead or contribute to tenders, mentor colleagues, and maintain client relationships.
  • Use project management systems to deliver quality outputs on time and within budget.
  • Stay current with relevant legislation and guidance.

Requirements

  • Significant flood forecasting modelling experience, especially with Flood Modeller.
  • Knowledge of Environment Agency requirements and forecasting systems.
  • Experience applying and calibrating hydrological models, including methods such as Muskingum-Cunge and PDM.
  • Analytical experience with hydrometric data processing and gauge rating reviews.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline.
  • Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS, and/or MapInfo.
  • Python, Anaconda, Ruby, or similar scripting knowledge is advantageous.
  • Self-motivated, committed, collaborative, and able to work in a deadline-driven team.
