Practice Director - Ports and Marine Engineering

Role overview

Project and client leadership

• Lead and support client relationships for the practice.
• Ensure projects meet schedule, cost, and quality targets.
• Lead continuous improvement through client feedback and delivery performance.
• Implement project governance standards and build effective supply chain and partner relationships.

Leadership and operations

• Grow regional capability and capacity through Enterprise Capability collaboration.
• Mentor, develop, and retain high-performing teams.
• Drive operational performance across cost, schedule, quality, innovation, and business KPIs.
• Coordinate national workshare and resource planning.
• Lead safety, wellbeing, sustainability, and environmental performance initiatives.

Collaboration and work winning

• Support multidisciplinary project delivery across business lines, sectors, and global geographies.
• Share knowledge, best practices, and technical expertise across the organisation.
• Deliver the existing framework and project portfolio while securing repeat business and new opportunities.
• Support sector-led bids and embed the Enterprise Capability delivery model.
• Develop discipline-specific strategies and relationships to maximise global delivery capability.

Required qualifications and experience

• Extensive ports, coastal, or marine engineering experience with a record of leading large, complex programs.
• Professional registration such as Chartered Engineer, PE, or an equivalent credential.
• A degree in civil, coastal, marine engineering, or a related field.
• Success in client development, strategic pursuits, and major multidisciplinary project delivery.
• Strong technical grounding in marine structures, coastal protection, dredging, reclamation, terminals, navigation, and resilience.
• Proven team leadership, P&L accountability, capability building, and client relationship management experience.

Additional technical familiarity

• Familiarity with PIANC and regional standards and guidance.
• Familiarity with digital delivery methods including BIM, analytics, and modeling.

Workplace and onboarding

• Hybrid work options may include an AECOM office, remote location, or client site.
• All newly hired employees must attend an in-person Day 1 onboarding at an AECOM office as a condition of employment.
