Role Overview

Painting Responsibilities

• Prepare surfaces by cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling, and repairing imperfections.
• Paint, stain, varnish, and finish timber structures such as fences, pergolas, decks, gazebos, gates, screens, and garden features.
• Paint metal structures, garden furniture, landscape fixtures, and other outdoor elements.
• Apply primers, undercoats, sealants, protective coatings, and finishing products.
• Select and mix paints, stains, coatings, and other materials according to project specifications.
• Use brushes, rollers, spray equipment, and other painting tools safely and effectively.

Finishing and Site Care

• Protect plants, lawns, paving, buildings, and surrounding areas during painting work.
• Carry out touch-ups, repairs, and maintenance painting as required.
• Inspect completed work and rectify defects or areas requiring additional coats.
• Maintain painting tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition.
• Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.

Safety and Teamwork

• Follow manufacturer instructions when handling paints, solvents, coatings, and chemicals.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures and environmental requirements.
• Work with landscapers, carpenters, supervisors, and other trades to complete projects on schedule.

Qualifications and Experience

• A certificate, diploma, or recognized vocational qualification in painting, decorating, surface finishing, or a related trade is preferred.
• Relevant painting apprenticeship or trade training is advantageous.
• At least 2–3 years of relevant painting experience is required, preferably in landscaping, outdoor construction, or property maintenance.
• Practical knowledge of painting techniques, surface preparation, coatings, and finishing products is required.
• Experience with outdoor and weather-resistant paints and protective coatings is required.

Skills and Working Conditions

• Ability to achieve a high-quality finish, accurately match colours, and apply appropriate coatings is required.
• Ability to safely use brushes, rollers, spray guns, sanding equipment, and other painting tools is required.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, at heights when required, and with painting materials is required.
• Good communication, time-management, reliability, punctuality, and commitment to safety are required.

Workplace

• Work is performed in person and includes outdoor landscaping environments.
