Requirements

- Basic understanding of Japanese building services regulations, codes of practice, and approval procedures
- Native level Japanese language proficiency
- Bachelor's degree or above in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline

- Willingness to work proactively with overseas offices
- Positive and open attitude toward communication in English

The Opportunity
- As a member of the Technology Team (specialised in data centre projects), you will be responsible for the mechanical design/engineering/consulting aspects of technology sector projects, primarily data centres.
- Reporting line: Japan Technology Lead.
- Work collaboratively with Japan and APAC teams to deliver technology and data centre projects for global clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver and, where appropriate, lead defined mechanical engineering packages for technology building projects especially data centres from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
- Prepare mechanical design calculations, specifications, drawings, and technical reports in accordance with Japanese codes, standards, and regulations, as well as relevant international standards.
- Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams (structural, architectural, fire, sustainability, and other building services disciplines, including electrical engineering), as well as external stakeholders.
- Support statutory submissions, authority approvals, and respond to technical queries during design and construction phases.
- Participate in site inspections, technical reviews, and design audits as required.
- Contribute to project planning, resource management, and programme delivery to meet quality, cost, and schedule objectives.
- Depending on experience, the role may involve leading defined packages or supporting discipline leads on larger projects.
Essential Requirements
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in building services design, with experience in Japan preferred.
- Basic understanding of Japanese building services regulations, codes of practice, and approval procedures.
- Native level Japanese language proficiency.
Education / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Preferred / Additional Attributes
- Holding one or more relevant Japanese professional qualifications, such as: First class Architect, First class Equipment Design Architect, Professional Engineer (Japan), Building Services Engineer, or equivalent international professional qualifications.
- A collaborative team player who respects colleagues and can work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to work proactively with overseas offices.
- Positive and open attitude toward communication in English.
