Ensure the right materials are available at the right time and in the right quantity for production schedules.
Balance supply and demand while minimizing costs from excess inventory or shortages.
Key accountabilities
- Analyze production and maintenance schedules to determine material needs.
- Generate demand forecasts using consumption trends, lead times, and production plans.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and procurement teams on material plans.
- Adjust material plans for operational changes and unexpected demand.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely material delivery.
- Develop procurement strategies and identify backup suppliers to mitigate risk.
- Use the MRP system to monitor stock, identify shortages, and generate procurement proposals.
- Develop and implement contingency plans for material shortages and supply chain disruptions.
- Collaborate with departments to resolve issues and maintain production flow.
- Perform other work requested by the direct manager.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a related field is typically a prerequisite.
- At least 5 years of experience in material planning, inventory management, or supply chain roles.
Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication for coordinating with internal teams and external suppliers.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to forecast demand and estimate material needs accurately.
- Knowledge of inventory control, stock management, and appropriate stock levels.
- Understanding of supply chain principles, manufacturing processes, and lean manufacturing techniques.
- Ability to identify and resolve issues under pressure.
- Meticulous approach to accuracy in planning and data management.
- Strong organizational and time management skills for multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of budgets, cost control, and the financial impact of planning decisions.
