Key Purpose
Supervise personnel lift operations.
Inspection and Hazard Control
- Verify crane, derrick, and platform inspections are complete before personnel lifts.
- Inspect for excessive load or radius, overhead obstructions, power lines, hazardous locations, inadequate support, weather, instability, and other hazards.
- Report hazards to the employer before performing the lift.
- Verify the crane base is level within the manufacturer's recommendations.
- Verify boom-attached platforms meet manufacturer or qualified-person attachment requirements.
Lift Safety Controls
- Keep total lifted weight, including rigging, platform, personnel, tools, and materials, within the specified rated-load limits.
- Verify a trial lift is performed with the platform loaded to at least the expected actual weight.
- Do not allow crane or derrick travel with personnel in the platform except on fixed rails or runways.
- Verify secure platform attachment and ensure the load line is not attached to or wrapped around the platform.
- Keep people from passing under raised platforms and limit platform occupants to those needed for the work.
Coordination and Procedures
- Consult crane, derrick, and platform manufacturer information for operating instructions.
