About the Role
Hitachi Energy seeks a motivated Legal Counsel to provide full-spectrum legal support across Corporate Functions and Business Units in the Middle East & Africa. The role involves drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on legal matters, ensuring compliance, and managing disputes.

Responsibilities
- Draft, review, negotiate, interpret and advise on legal documents and contracts
- Provide strategic legal advice on contract law, litigation, compliance, intellectual property, employment, corporate governance, ethics, etc.
- Develop close working relationships with internal customers including commercial business teams and supply chain functions
- Review policies and documents from vendors, customers and third parties ensuring compliance
- Research, analyze, and interpret laws, statutes, and regulations
- Advise on claims liability, legal rights and obligations and oversee disputes and litigation
- Support business units in managing contractual claims and resolution of disputes
- Participate in promoting compliance with internal directives and local laws
- Develop effective legal strategies and practical solutions
- Monitor legal affairs including litigations and activity reports
- Draft and review RFQs, pre qualification questionnaires, tender preparation, risk identification, contract negotiations
- Plan and coordinate legal training
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in law
- Qualified lawyer with minimum 10 years of post qualification experience
- 5+ years of experience as in house legal counsel or in legal practice relating to major utilities construction/engineering projects
- Strong experience in contract law and commercial negotiations
- Proficiency in both spoken & written English
- Proficiency in Arabic is a plus
- Bar admission is preferred but not mandatory

The opportunity
- We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Legal Counsel to join our team.
- You will provide full spectrum legal support across Corporate Functions and Business Units including Grid Integration, Grid Automation, High Voltage, Transformers, and Services.
How You’ll Make An Impact
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating, interpreting and advising on legal documents and contracts.
- Providing strategic legal advice on contract law, litigation, transactions/anti trust, compliance, intellectual property, employment/labor, corporate governance, ethics.
- Developing close working relationships with internal customers.
- Reviewing policies and documents from vendors, customers and third parties.
- Researching, analyzing, and interpreting laws, statutes, and regulations.
- Advising on claims liability, legal rights and obligations and overseeing disputes and litigation.
- Supporting business units in managing contractual claims and dispute resolution.
- Participating in promoting compliance with internal directives and local laws.
- Developing effective legal strategies and practical solutions.
- Monitoring legal affairs including litigations and activity reports.

Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in law.
- Qualified lawyer with minimum 10 years of post qualification experience.
- Ideally 5+ years of experience as in house legal counsel or in legal practice relating to major utilities construction/engineering projects.
- Strong experience in contract law and commercial negotiations.
- Good analytical and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of integrity and ethical standards.
- Proficiency in Arabic is a plus.
- Bar admission is preferred but not mandatory.
- Proficiency in both spoken & written English is required.
