The Role
The Lead Engineer will take technical ownership of complex products and systems and raise the engineering bar across the team.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role involving system design, coding, code review, difficult engineering problem-solving, mentoring, and major initiative delivery.
The role requires moving between architecture and implementation while making strong technical decisions and remaining close to the code.
What You'll Own
- Lead technical design and execution for major products, features, and engineering initiatives.
- Design scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems across backend, frontend, APIs, databases, and infrastructure.
- Perform coding, prototyping, code reviews, debugging, and production problem-solving.
- Make architecture decisions and trade-offs balancing speed, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Set standards for code quality, system design, testing, security, observability, and production reliability.
- Review designs and code, mentor engineers, identify risks, and improve team technical capability.
- Collaborate across engineering, product, design, and AI teams to ship high-quality products.
- Improve tooling, development practices, and automation, and own systems through production monitoring and incident resolution.
What We're Looking For
- Strong software engineering background with significant experience building and shipping production systems.
- Deep expertise in one or more of backend, frontend, distributed systems, APIs, databases, or cloud infrastructure.
- Strong system design, architecture, coding, debugging, and production systems experience.
- Proven technical leadership of major engineering projects or other engineers.
- Ability to explain technical decisions, influence across teams, connect technology to business outcomes, and operate with ambiguity.
- Strong judgment about delivery speed, simplification, and deeper engineering investment.
- Strong English communication is required.
Role Fit
The role is not intended for engineers seeking leadership without coding or code review responsibilities.
The role requires broad ownership, engagement with production incidents, and understanding of product and business problems.
Location
- This is a hybrid role requiring work from the local office at least three days per week.
- The remaining days offer flexibility to work remotely.
- Candidates should be based in, or able to work from, the location where the role is advertised.
Interview Process
- The process includes an online assessment or practical task, a technical interview, and a CEO or final round.
- The company aims to complete the process and make an offer within one week for strong candidates.
