Aldar Education are currently seeking an outstanding Head of Performing Arts (Drama Specialist) for Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi to join in Academic Year 2026/2027.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family.
The role will lead across Performing Arts and teach Drama up to A Level.
You will also have oversight of Music, working closely with the Head of Music.
Candidates must have a secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum.
Potential candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning to ensure outstanding progress for all.
They will be able to demonstrate leadership skills/experiences at a variety of levels and to be effective in working collaboratively in a team.

Key Tasks

- Working cooperatively with curriculum support staff (where applicable) to support student development
- Acting as a form tutor and supporting the pastoral needs of students.
- Teaching and Learning
- Clear understanding of the British curriculum
- Organising classroom provision, learning resources and creating displays to encourage a positive and engaging learning environment
- Planning, preparing and presenting sessions that cater for the needs of the whole ability range within the classes taught in line with the Learning and Teaching Policy
- Motivating pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative teaching
- Observing and assessing children in line with the Assessment Policy
- Being reflective of the classroom provision, sessions taught, progress made, and adjusting environment, planning and curriculum to reflect this
- Assessment and Data
- Taking responsibility for the progress of classes taught
- Meeting requirements for the assessment and recording of students’ development using the schools designated assessment system
- Using data provided by assessments to influence further planning, provision and intervention
- Be accountable to the Head of Department for the performance data of classes taught and to develop strategies to improve
- Providing feedback to parents and carers on a students’ progress at Parent Teacher Conferences and other meetings.
- Behaviour Management and Duties
• Follow Behaviour Policy
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to students’ needs to inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
- Maintain excellent relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary within the school’s Behaviour Policy
- Be a positive role model and demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour, which are expected of pupils
- Have high expectations of behaviour, promoting self-control and independence of all learners
- Carry out duties as directed and within the school’s policy.
• Wider Professional Responsibilities
- To work as part of a department team, supporting planning, assessment, resources and special events linked to that team
- Support the organising and taking part in school events, outings and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening
- Communicate effectively with parents/carers with regards to students’ achievements and well-being using school systems/processes such as CPOMS as appropriate
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school
- Run a weekly ECA each term.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Education or BSc degree with PGCE or equivalent is essential.
- At least 3 years teaching experience, including 3 consecutive years of performance exceeding standards and expectations as evidenced by performance appraisal.
- Wide experience and impact in a Middle Leadership role.
- Experience of leading school initiatives that have led to improvement in standards and achievement.
- Experience working with parents and external agencies.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in the same role.
