The role is responsible for driving the tax function strategy forward, particularly in the areas of automation and insourcing.
The tax compliance objective is to ensure regulatory compliance across all operating jurisdictions and the implementation of a centralized compliance management system built around a robust tax governance framework and internal controls.
The scope includes strong grip on Corporate Tax, VAT, WHT rules with a know-how of CbCR, Transfer Pricing and Pillar 2.
Responsibilities
- Review the group tax compliance section of the tax function strategy on a continuous basis and propose and implement necessary enhancements.
- Design, document, and implement tax compliance processes, ensuring alignment with overall tax strategy.
- Oversee compliance with regulatory requirements across all operating jurisdictions for Corporate Tax, VAT, Transfer Pricing, WHT, and other relevant taxes.
- Implement and manage tools for monitoring, reviewing, and enhancing tax compliance processes, including automation and digitalization.
- Carry out ongoing risk management and maintain systems for monitoring compliance activities and reporting status to senior management.
- Provide training, guidance, and set performance indicators for the tax compliance function.
- Manage, advise, and improve the tax compliance process, including the review, automation, and digitization of:
- Local corporate tax returns in compliance with relevant local laws
- Local VAT returns in compliance with relevant local laws
- Local WHT returns in compliance with relevant local laws
- Transfer Pricing requirements (documentation, disclosure, design, and supporting calculations)
- Country-by-Country reporting and notifications
- GloBE tax filings and other Pillar 2 requirements
- Manage and supervise local staff to ensure compliance and efficiency in tax processes.
- Assess, appoint, manage, and supervise consultants for specialized tax compliance tasks.
- Oversee preparation and review of tax provisions and tax accruals.
- Respond to queries from external auditors and ensure audit requirements are met.
- Verify the accuracy of tax returns to ensure compliance with local and domestic tax rules.
- Provide regular tax advice on day-to-day transactions.
- Document positions taken and decisions made.
- Set, track, monitor, and report on tax KPIs.
- Monitor, determine, manage, and settle tax liabilities.
- Coordinate with local teams to determine appropriate reporting structures.
- Handle direct contacts and negotiations with local authorities.
- Implement new tax requirements and jurisdictions, including impact assessments and design of governance, processes, and systems.
- Oversee digitization and automation of systems and processes with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Solve complex tax issues and provide recommendations.
- Prepare and support group tax accounting and financial reporting, including:
- Corporate tax provisions
- Current and deferred tax accounting
- Tax disclosure reporting
- Oversee tax reporting and financial analysis to ensure accurate and timely reporting of tax positions and liabilities.
- Review and analyze tax provisions and accruals.
- Identify and mitigate tax-related risks, including legislative changes, tax audits, and tax implications.
- Conduct regular risk assessments.
- Stay updated on tax laws and regulations.
- Interpret tax implications of business decisions and transactions.
- Manage tax audits and disputes, including responding to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Coordinate with internal tax legal, external advisors, and consultants.
- Represent the organization during tax audits and litigation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate tax considerations into processes and transactions.
- Provide tax advice to support business operations.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of direct, indirect, and tax compliance experience in both compliance and advisory roles
- Financial reporting qualification (ACCA, CPA, CA) is an advantage
- Tax technology qualification and/or experience
- Tax compliance experience in a multinational environment or Big4 is an advantage
- Strong understanding of Corporate Tax (including tax accounting), VAT, FATCA, CRS, Excise
