Position Overview
General Motors is seeking an Environmental Leader for non-manufacturing operations across Canada.
The role provides strategic and technical leadership for environmental compliance, risk management, sustainability, and continuous improvement.
The position is based at the Oshawa Elevation Centre and supports engineering centres, test facilities, warehouses, and other non-manufacturing sites.
Workplace and Travel
- The role is hybrid and requires reporting to the Oshawa Elevation Centre at least three days per week.
- The position requires some travel, including monthly trips to nearby sites and potential travel to remote sites one or two times per year.
Environmental Programs
- Ensure compliance with air regulations, equipment conditions, emissions modeling, change management, EASR requirements, and regulatory reporting.
- Manage waste characterization, shipments, contractor oversight, budgeting, diversion improvements, and Zero Waste initiatives.
- Support stormwater, sanitary water, drinking water sampling, and Environmental Compliance Approval requirements.
- Maintain ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, training, standardized work, audits, and corrective actions.
- Provide environmental emergency response, support tank and refrigerant regulations, maintain monitoring wells, and assess Environmental Handling Charges.
- Develop project bid documents, support environmental risk reduction projects, and conduct community outreach.
Qualifications
- Experience in environmental engineering or a related science or engineering field is required; manufacturing experience is preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or related environmental sciences and Professional Engineer registration are preferred.
- At least 3 years of environmental experience in a similar role is required.
- Knowledge of provincial, federal, and municipal environmental regulations and experience with regulators are required.
- Expertise in at least one environmental medium, such as air, water, or waste, is preferred.
- Strong technical judgment, problem-solving, communication, leadership, initiative, and prioritization skills are required.
- A valid full Class G Canadian driver's licence is required.
Compensation
- The stated salary range is $76,100 to $114,300, with the actual offer dependent on factors relevant to the position.
