Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and lead a learning culture amongst the nursing team
- Establish, monitor, and ensure professional standards of care within the Nursing Department
- Serve as a member of the Hospital Management Executive Committee
- Develop and update written policies and procedures for nursing personnel
- Oversee departmental operating expenses and plan capital equipment purchases
- Ensure programs and standards for ongoing education of nurses are established
- Investigate and take appropriate action on matters of concern
- Chair or delegate authority for Nursing Department meetings
- Develop strategic, operational, and fiscal goals in collaboration with leadership
- Undertake annual staff appraisals and identify training needs
Requirements
- Registered Nurse license to practice under relevant regulatory health authority
- Master’s degree in Nursing or Hospital Administration/Management
- Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card
- Ability to influence, implement, and execute change

Role Overview
- Develop, maintain, and lead a learning culture amongst the nursing team.
- Establish, monitor, and ensure professional standards of care are maintained within the Nursing Department.
- Be a member of the Hospital Management Executive Committee and participate in development of hospital plans, programs, and policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Be responsible for written policies and procedures that guide nursing personnel.
- Work with HR’s Performance Improvement Management Plan.
- Be responsible for overall administration of Nursing Departments.
- Ensure programs and standards for ongoing education of nurses are established.
- Ensure Nursing Department is informed of hospital policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Investigate and take appropriate action on matters of concern.
- Ensure any sentinel or serious incident triggers a Nursing Process Review.
- Establish and ensure written Standing Orders and Regulations are implemented.
- Facilitate communication between nurses and other healthcare disciplines.
- Chair or delegate authority for Nursing Department meetings.
- Ensure representatives of nursing staff are appointed to hospital committees.
- Serve on administrative and other hospital committees as requested.
Qualifications
- Hold an appropriate Registered Nurse license to practice under the relevant regulatory health authority.
- Hold a Master’s degree in Nursing or Hospital Administration/Management.
- Hold a valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider card.
- Demonstrate the ability to influence, implement, and execute change when necessary.
