Job Summary

  • As the Director – Online Marketplace, you will be responsible for driving the growth and commercial performance of GMG's Online Marketplace business across multiple business units and categories.
  • You will play a pivotal role in launching, scaling, and optimizing marketplace operations while driving revenue, profitability, and customer experience.
  • You will lead a cross functional team and collaborate closely with Operations, Transformation, Catalog, Growth, BI & Analytics, IT, Finance, and Commercial teams to execute GMG's marketplace strategy.

Key Responsibilities Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement the Online Marketplace strategy in alignment with GMG's digital and omnichannel strategy.
  • Identify growth opportunities, market trends, and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Create and execute strategic plans with clear objectives, milestones, and KPIs.
  • Drive day to day marketplace trading operations across multiple marketplace businesses.

Key Responsibilities Commercial Performance

  • Own the commercial performance of the Online Marketplace business, including sales, revenue, margin, and profitability.
  • Monitor marketplace performance and implement initiatives to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
  • Analyze sales performance, customer behavior, and market trends to identify opportunities for growth.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and performance reporting to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities Marketplace Operations

  • Lead the successful launch and growth of new marketplace businesses across multiple GMG verticals.
  • Partner with Category, Merchandising, and Catalog teams to optimize assortment, pricing, and product availability.
  • Work closely with Technology and Transformation teams to optimize marketplace integrations and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure an exceptional customer experience across all marketplace touchpoints.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Build, lead, and develop a high performing Marketplace team.
  • Collaborate with Marketing teams to drive traffic, conversion, and retail media opportunities.
  • Partner closely with BI & Analytics, Finance, IT, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Requirement

  • At least 8+ years of experience in Marketplace, Ecommerce, Digital Commerce, or Online Trading leadership roles.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Ecommerce, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Proven experience managing Online Marketplace or Ecommerce businesses with full commercial accountability.
  • Strong understanding of marketplace ecosystems, ecommerce operations, digital trading, and omnichannel retail.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive revenue growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasting, and KPIs.
  • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make informed commercial decisions.
  • Previous experience within retail, ecommerce, marketplace, or consumer focused industries is highly desirable.

Job Specific Skills

  • Proven experience managing Online Marketplace businesses and driving commercial growth.
  • Strong understanding of ecommerce platforms, marketplace operations, and digital commerce.
  • Experience working with marketplace integrations, catalog management, pricing, and merchandising.
  • Strong knowledge of supply chain and logistics operations.
  • Commercial mindset with experience managing sales, margins, and profitability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and cross functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify growth opportunities.
  • Experience building efficient processes and high performing teams.
  • Experience within Food, Grocery, Quick Commerce, or Southeast Asian marketplaces would be highly advantageous.
  • Arabic would be considered a plus.
