Job Overview

  • University Hospital Southampton NHS FT offers two CESR Fellow posts in Ophthalmology.
  • Start Date: ASAP. Contract Type: Fixed term. Duration: 12 months in the first instance. Purpose: Training Contract.
  • These are training opportunities for doctors wishing to progress via the CESR route.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Participate in all aspects of ophthalmology within the department.
  • Join the specialist trainee on call rota.
  • Weekly timetables include specialist clinics, theatre sessions, laser or injection sessions, eye casualty, admin time, and weekly teaching.
  • Engage with workplace based assessments, appraisal, clinical supervision and portfolio development in line with CESR requirements.

Person Specification Qualifications, Training & Experience

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • GMC registration with a licence to practice.
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.

Aptitudes and Skills

  • Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi professional teams.
  • Understanding of equality and diversity.
  • Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
  • Good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be calm, compassionate, and respond efficiently to various circumstances.
  • Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Salary

  • Salary assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility for Nodal Point 5 requires minimum 6 years specialty training, relevant higher specialty exam, and portfolio evidence.
