Responsibilities
- Operate the school bus in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to traffic laws and regulations
- Ensure the safety of students during transit, including use of seat belts and other safety measures
- Follow designated bus routes and schedules to pick up and drop off students at assigned locations
- Notify the transportation coordinator of any deviations or delays in the route
- Perform routine pre trip and post trip inspections of the school bus
- Report any mechanical issues or concerns promptly to the transportation coordinator
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment on the bus
- Enforce bus rules and discipline students as needed, reporting behavioral issues to school authorities
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff
- Report any incidents or concerns related to students' well being during transportation
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including evacuations and first aid if necessary
- Attend training sessions on emergency procedures and protocols
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements
- Completion of a school bus driver training program
- 1 3 years experience with at least 1 2 years as a school bus driver
