You will be able to design secure, scalable and well-governed RESTful APIs and microservices on AWS, applying consistent standards for identity, access control, observability, auditability and operational resilience. You will be comfortable collaborating with stakeholders to translate outcomes into pragmatic architectures and delivery plans, and you will bring strong engineering discipline, documentation and teamwork skills to help teams deliver sustainable capabilities end-to-end. Required skills & experience (API & architecture):
Strong experience designing and building APIs and microservices architectures.
Hands-on experience with AWS serverless technologies (e.g., AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway).
Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, integration patterns and distributed systems; exposure to GraphQL is a plus.
Experience working across the full delivery lifecycle, from design through deployment and production support.
Ability to communicate architecture decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience:
Minimum 5+ years of experience as an AWS API Engineer / Data Architect, designing and delivering APIs and microservices in production environments.
Strong expertise in AWS services used for API and platform delivery (e.g., Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, IAM, VPC, Route 53, ECR) and experience applying security and networking fundamentals.
Experience with deployment and operations practices (CI/CD, release planning, cutover, post-go-live stabilisation) and observability tooling (e.g., CloudWatch and/or ELK, Prometheus, Grafana).
Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Python) with strong software engineering practices (Git, code review, unit testing, CI/CD) and an ability to troubleshoot production issues.
A continuous learning mindset, ideally with progress toward AWS certification (e.g., AWS Certified Developer Associate or AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate) or equivalent experience.
Relevant certifications (desirable): AWS Certified Developer Associate, AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate/Professional, and/or AWS Certified Security Specialty.
Technologies you may work with:
Amazon Web Services (AWS): Lambda, API Gateway, Aurora RDS, EC2, Route 53, ECR, STS, VPC, S3.
API, Integration & Security: RESTful APIs, Apollo GraphQL; AWS IAM, token-based authentication, external identity providers.
Data & Messaging: PostgreSQL, Apache Kafka, document stores.
Engineering & Operations: CI/CD pipelines; ELK stack; Prometheus, Grafana.
Hybrid working : The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
If you are successfully offered this position, you will go through a series of pre-employment checks, including identity, nationality (single or dual) or immigration status, employment history going back 3 continuous years, and unspent criminal record check (known as Disclosure and Barring Service)
You will be encouraged to have a positive work-life balance. Our hybrid-first way of working means we embed hybrid working in all that we do and make flexible working arrangements the day-to-day reality for our people. All UK employees are eligible to request flexible working arrangements.
You will be empowered to explore, innovate, and progress. You will benefit from Capgemini’s ‘learning for life’ mindset, meaning you will have countless training and development opportunities from thinktanks to hackathons, and access to 250,000 courses with numerous external certifications from AWS, Microsoft, Harvard Manage Mentor, Cybersecurity qualifications and much more.
