Job Summary

The Veterinary Anesthesia Technician will assist veterinarians and surgeons in administering and monitoring anesthesia for large animals, including horses, camels, and other livestock.

The ideal candidate must have strong technical expertise in anesthesia procedures, patient monitoring, and perioperative care within a large animal hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare anesthesia machines, monitoring devices, and surgical equipment before procedures.
  • Assist veterinarians during induction, maintenance, and recovery of anesthesia for large animals.
  • Monitor vital signs including heart rate, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature during procedures.
  • Maintain accurate anesthesia and patient monitoring records.
  • Prepare and administer medications under veterinary supervision.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and maintenance of anesthesia equipment.
  • Support emergency and critical care procedures when required.
  • Assist in patient handling, positioning, and recovery monitoring.
  • Maintain inventory of anesthesia drugs, supplies, and consumables.
  • Follow hospital safety, infection control, and animal welfare protocols.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Technology, Veterinary Nursing, Animal Health, or related field.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience in veterinary anesthesia, preferably with large animals.
  • Experience handling horses, camels, or livestock is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of anesthesia protocols, monitoring systems, and surgical assistance.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced veterinary hospital environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physically fit and comfortable working with large animals.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in equine or camel hospital settings.
  • Knowledge of emergency and critical care procedures.
  • Familiarity with advanced anesthesia monitoring equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and patient safety.
