Job Summary
The Urban Planner prepares master plans, land use plans, zoning regulations, development strategies, and infrastructure planning studies.
The role coordinates with stakeholders, consultants, government authorities, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare master plans, structure plans, neighborhood plans, and urban development strategies.
- Conduct land use analysis, demographic studies, socioeconomic assessments, site analysis, feasibility studies, and urban growth assessments.
- Develop zoning regulations, planning policies, and development control guidelines.
- Coordinate with transportation, utilities, environmental, and infrastructure teams.
- Prepare planning reports, presentations, technical documentation, and regulatory submissions.
- Review development applications and assess compliance with planning regulations and standards.
- Engage with government authorities, developers, stakeholders, and community representatives.
- Support planning approvals and permitting processes.
- Use GIS and planning software for spatial analysis and mapping.
- Assess sustainability, resilience, and smart city initiatives.
- Participate in public consultations and workshops.
- Provide recommendations on urban design, mobility, public realm, and community facilities.
Qualifications and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Urban Planning is required.
- A master’s degree in urban planning or urban design is preferred.
- The role requires three to ten or more years of experience in urban, master, or development planning projects.
- Experience with government agencies, municipalities, developers, or engineering consultants is required.
- Middle East or GCC project experience is preferred.
- Professional membership with a recognized planning institution is advantageous.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS is required.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office is required.
- Familiarity with planning regulations, zoning codes, and development standards is required.
- Understanding of transportation planning, infrastructure planning, and sustainability principles is required.
- Experience with data analysis, spatial modeling, and report preparation is required.
Presentation Software Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint is required for planning presentations, stakeholder reports, and public consultation materials.
- Experience with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop supports presentation boards and visual communication.
- Microsoft Visio, Canva, or similar visualization tools are advantageous.
- Presentations may incorporate maps, GIS outputs, master plans, urban design concepts, infographics, and data-driven insights.
Soft Skills and Deliverables
Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, presentation, stakeholder engagement, coordination, project management, and organizational skills are required.
The role produces master plans, structure plans, land use plans, planning reports, development control guidelines, zoning maps, GIS analysis, urban development strategies, and regulatory approval documents.
