Role overview

WSP is seeking an experienced Mechanical Technical Director for its London office and Data Centre sector Mission Critical Facilities team.

The role supports hyperscale, colocation, end-user, and enterprise clients across the UK and EMEA.

The position combines technical leadership, innovation, strategic initiatives, client relationships, and data centre engineering delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team's day-to-day management, vision, values, leadership, and team cooperation.
  • Develop UK and EMEA client relationships, brand presence, and new commissions.
  • Manage budgets, forecasting, team performance, pipeline, finance, and operational delivery.
  • Drive profitable work winning and strategic initiatives with directors and senior leadership.
  • Work with clients, developers, contractors, and architects as a key client contact.
  • Share knowledge and technical skills with colleagues across WSP's global business.

Required capabilities

  • Demonstrate mechanical engineering expertise across HVAC, cooling, fuel systems, controls, and energy management.
  • Provide innovative solutions to complex mechanical challenges and improve energy efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage mechanical engineering teams and resources.
  • Manage project planning, execution, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Communicate technical concepts graphically and effectively with varied stakeholders.
  • Apply strategic vision, adaptability, and customer focus in a rapidly evolving data centre sector.

Professional qualification

  • Hold chartership through CIBSE, IET, or IMechE Engineering Council, or be open to working towards it.

Workplace

  • The role is based in WSP's London office on Chancery Lane.
  • WSP's hybrid working policy allows employees to work from home two days a week.
