Role Overview

Provide manufacturing process architecture services for process industry construction projects across planning, concept design, detailed design and implementation.

Work particularly across food, manufacturing and process-related industries.

Develop client process proposals into efficient, effective and adaptable facility solutions.

Core Functions

  • Deliver process-led solutions for master planning, feasibility, scheme design, detailed design and construction support.
  • Develop building, room, plant and manufacturing process layouts for cGMP compliance, efficiency and operability.
  • Identify waste and optimise layouts for operation, inventory, maintenance and future flexibility.
  • Prepare, check and approve architectural drawings and specifications across project stages.
  • Coordinate design interfaces with other disciplines and manage Revit 3D model coordination and BIM implementation.
  • Support cost management, value engineering, constructability, manhour estimates and proposals.
  • Present to clients and provide technical advice on architectural and process aspects.
  • Contribute to systems, procedures and the development of department expertise.

Experience and Technical Requirements

  • Experience and demonstrable proficiency working in the process industries.
  • Experience with manufacturers on facility or process line design, optimisation or development.
  • Experience designing or managing industrial or manufacturing facilities to codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of materials, construction techniques and sustainability.
  • Awareness of pharmaceutical, science and technology, chemical manufacturing and food sectors.
  • Commercial awareness and experience supporting cost estimating functions.
  • AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office Suite and NBS software experience.
  • Understanding of Designer and Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM Regulations.

Qualifications and Capabilities

  • BSc or BA in Architecture, BSc Architectural Technology, BEng or MEng in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent degree.
  • Good interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills for multidisciplinary and client work.
  • Ability to identify architectural constraints and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to develop practical, value-for-money solutions and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience and industrialisation or manufacturing scale-up experience are beneficial.

Key Interfaces

  • Work with project teams, discipline engineers, designers and project managers.
  • Coordinate with clients and suppliers in offices and at project sites.
  • Interface with civil, structural and architectural engineering managers, sales teams and local authorities.
