Role overview

WSP is seeking an experienced Clean Water Process Engineer at Principal to Associate Director level.

The role supports multidisciplinary design teams delivering water and water reuse projects in the UK and overseas.

The position is available in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, or Glasgow.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce process design deliverables including optioneering studies, process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, and basis of design reports.
  • Undertake outline and detailed process engineering design from feasibility and optioneering through procurement and construction.
  • Attend site visits, provide procurement input, review supplier proposals, and support client technical discussions.
  • Attend HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, and SWIFT sessions.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and supervision to junior staff.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and deliver work to time, cost, quality, programme, and budget expectations.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes, schedules, and budgets and represent the organisation with external clients.

Qualifications

  • A degree or MSc in chemical engineering or environmental engineering.
  • Professional registration as CEng, or working toward chartership within 12 months.

Skills and experience

  • Significant experience delivering process engineering design for infrastructure projects, including leading a process engineering role or significant task.
  • Experience in the municipal water industry.
  • Ability to prepare or review process design packages mainly unsupervised.
  • Experience with municipal clean water treatment solutions, including clarification, DAF, rapid gravity filtration, disinfection, taste and odour or pesticide removal, and chemical dosing.
  • Previous experience in a consultancy, engineering company, or relevant industry as a Process Engineer.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and produce high-quality technical reports and presentations.
  • Confident communication with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors and experience leading multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Ability to travel to operational works and construction sites safely.
