Job Description

WSP is seeking an experienced Clean Water Process Engineer at Principal to Associate Director level for its Water Engineering teams.

The role supports multidisciplinary water and water reuse projects in the UK and overseas, from feasibility and optioneering through detailed design, procurement, construction, and supplier review.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce process design deliverables including optioneering studies, calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, sketches, reports, and related documents.
  • Undertake outline and detailed process engineering design for clean water and water reuse projects.
  • Attend site visits for data collection and meetings with site operators.
  • Provide technical input to procurement and review supplier proposals.
  • Support Project Managers in client technical discussions and liaise with technology providers and vendors.
  • Attend HAZOP, HAZID, ENVID, and SWIFT sessions.
  • Guide, coach, and technically supervise junior staff.
  • Collaborate across disciplines while delivering work to time, cost, quality, programme, and budget expectations.
  • Contribute to proposals, scopes, schedules, budgets, and client liaison.

Qualifications

  • A Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering degree or MSc is required.
  • Professional registration as CEng is required, or the candidate should be working toward Chartership within 12 months.

Skills and Experience

  • Significant process engineering design experience on infrastructure projects, including leading the process engineering role on a project or significant task.
  • Experience in the municipal water industry.
  • Ability to prepare or review process design packages independently, including specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, schedules, control philosophies, P&IDs, mass balances, and procurement documentation.
  • Experience with municipal clean water treatment solutions including clarification, DAF, rapid gravity filtration, disinfection, taste and odour or pesticide removal, and chemical dosing.
  • Consultancy, engineering company, or relevant industry experience as a Process Engineer.
  • Strong time management, technical writing, presentation, communication, meeting leadership, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to travel to operational works and construction sites and work safely on site.

  • The role is associated with WSP Water Engineering teams in Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, or Glasgow.
