Responsibilities
- Lead and direct all mechanical engineering and technical operations across complex multidisciplinary EPC projects.
- Oversee design, procurement and construction phases, ensuring projects are technically robust, buildable and commercially viable.
- Drive technical excellence, innovation and continuous improvement across the engineering function.
- Lead constructability and buildability reviews in collaboration with procurement and construction teams.
- Ensure compliance with international standards, Uptime Institute requirements, and UAE local authority and utility regulations.
- Review and approve technical submittals, shop drawings, major equipment selections and engineering deliverables.
- Provide technical leadership for commissioning strategies and integrated systems testing (IST).
- Support tendering and business development by providing technical input, value engineering solutions and risk assessments.
- Represent the company in client, consultant and authority meetings.
- Mentor, develop and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
- Manage engineering budgets, departmental resources and workload planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
- Minimum 15+ years' experience in MEP/building services engineering
- Proven experience delivering mission critical and hyperscale data centre projects
- Strong understanding of EPC project delivery from concept design through commissioning
- Excellent knowledge of international engineering standards (NFPA, IEC, ASHRAE, Uptime Institute)
- Strong knowledge of UAE local authority and utility regulations
- Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams across large scale projects
- Strong commercial and contractual awareness
- Excellent stakeholder management, leadership and communication skills
- Excellent written and spoken English

Overview
- James L Williams Middle East is seeking a highly experienced Technical Director – Mechanical to join our Engineering Design division.
- This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving technical excellence across the design, procurement and construction lifecycle of complex, mission critical and hyperscale data centre projects.
- The successful candidate will lead our Mechanical Engineering team, ensuring the delivery of innovative, high quality and commercially successful engineering solutions while supporting the continued growth of the business.
