Staff Software Engineer – SRE & AIOps

Role overview

Core responsibilities

• Operate enterprise-scale Kubernetes clusters across hybrid and multi-cloud environments with governance, scaling, and reliability practices.
• Build closed-loop auto-remediation systems that detect, classify, and resolve infrastructure failures.
• Develop observability, incident management, log aggregation, runbook, and playbook capabilities.
• Establish SLO frameworks, error budgets, alerting policies, and automated incident response patterns.
• Maintain Infrastructure as Code and GitOps deployments with auditable security and compliance controls.
• Architect on-premises, public cloud, and edge operations, including migrations and disaster recovery.
• Promote containerization, microservices, DevOps, CI/CD, service mesh, and network security practices.
• Design global on-call rotations, escalation policies, and incident command systems.
• Mentor SRE and infrastructure engineers and champion blameless, data-driven improvement.
• Automate repetitive provisioning, incident response, and cost optimization work to reduce operational toil.

Required experience

• At least 8 years in software engineering or infrastructure operations, including 5+ years in SRE, DevOps, or cloud platform engineering.
• At least 4 years of hands-on experience operating production Kubernetes clusters at scale.
• Experience designing closed-loop automated remediation systems that reduce MTTR or manual toil.
• Experience across at least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps platforms for infrastructure deployment.
• Experience with follow-the-sun 24/7 on-call operations, runbooks, escalation, and incident response.
• Experience managing on-premises and public cloud environments, hybrid networking, disaster recovery, and workload migration.
• Strong Linux administration, performance troubleshooting, and scripting skills using Python, Go, Bash, or equivalent.
• Ability to apply AI or machine learning insights to infrastructure operations and problem-solving.
• Technical leadership ability across teams and experience mentoring engineers.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred qualifications

• Kubernetes certification such as CKA, CKAD, or equivalent.
• Experience with service mesh platforms or advanced Kubernetes networking.
• Experience migrating workloads from on-premises data centers to public cloud environments.
• Experience with hybrid cloud cost optimization practices.
• Track record of mentoring infrastructure engineering teams.

Compensation

• Base pay for the location is C$125,700 to C$220,000 per year.
• Additional compensation may include equity, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.
• Compensation varies based on qualifications, skills, competencies, and work location.
