Reporting to the House Manager, this role is key to maintaining the high standards, discretion, and traditions of the Royal Household.
The Staff Manager oversees personnel logistics, supports event execution, and ensures staff discipline, welfare, and alignment with palace protocol, while also handling significant administrative duties.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or higher education in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management, Business Management or Psychology
- Valid driver’s license may be required depending on duties.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in luxury hospitality, royal/private residences, or elite estate management.
- Strong background in managing diverse teams
- Experience working within formal, protocol-driven environments is an advantage.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Direct supervision of all household personnel, including management of schedules, attendance, leave approvals, shift coverage, uniform distribution, and performance evaluations.
- Accompany the family on international trips to oversee staff logistics, setup, and service standards while traveling. Travel with the family as needed, preparing residences and staff ahead of time.
- Provide ongoing training and mentorship to staff from various backgrounds, ensuring they adhere to the family’s high expectations. Handle performance issues and provide feedback in a constructive, culturally sensitive manner.
- Oversight of the Interior Supervisor and Team Leaders - ensuring their teams deliver consistent service aligned with palace expectations.
- Collaborate closely on event planning, special projects, staffing for functions, and day-to-day priorities.
- Monitor staff behaviour, handle grievances confidentially, and maintain a respectful workplace culture. Oversee staff performance, providing feedback and always ensuring professionalism.
- Ensure all staff adhere to etiquette, security, and service protocols; coordinate or deliver training as needed. Coordinate staff schedules and oversee duties, ensuring reliability and flexibility across multiple properties.
- Must be available to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and be on-call when needed.
- Adjust staff schedules, workloads, and responsibilities as required, maintaining service excellence under pressure.
- Capable of performing effectively during last-minute schedule changes.
- Maintain the highest level of discretion and loyalty regarding all matters of the household and family. Maintain confidentiality in all matters concerning the family.
- Address and resolve interpersonal conflicts and challenges within the staff, using strong communication skills and diplomacy. Ensure that staff members work harmoniously despite differing backgrounds and personalities.
- Ensure that all staff perform consistently, even during periods of high stress or when the family is traveling. Oversee smooth transitions between staff shifts and ensure no disruption to the household’s operations.
- Organize and prepare staff for travel, ensuring they are briefed and equipped to support the family’s needs wherever they go. Oversee logistics, readiness, and coordination during events and family functions.
- Anticipate the Principal(s)’ needs and ensure readiness for travel, events, and last-minute changes and work in coordination with the House Manager.
- Must be willing to travel abroad for extended periods for work purposes.
