The Interplanetary Sciences Program seeks to expand access to scientific exploration across the solar system.
The program aims to make planetary research faster, more affordable, and more capable by rethinking how science missions are designed, built, and operated.
About the Role
The Staff Avionics Hardware Engineer will own spacecraft avionics design, development, and delivery from concept through flight.
The role will help define Relativity's future interplanetary avionics architecture and technical standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop complete avionics systems, including architecture, design, integration, and verification, from concept through flight-qualified hardware.
- Collaborate with propulsion, guidance and control, thermal, and software teams on avionics integration and performance.
- Implement design and test processes supporting reliability and safety for deep-space missions.
- Lead avionics hardware builds involving PCB design, harnessing, embedded systems, and environmental qualification.
- Coordinate component selection, testing, and delivery schedules with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain design documentation, test plans, and reports.
About You
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering avionics or electronics for aerospace systems or similarly complex environments.
- Ability to take designs from concept through production with minimal supervision.
- Hands-on experience with schematic capture, PCB layout, embedded software interfaces, and system-level testing.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and work cross-functionally.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with adaptability and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct technical experience in Mars missions is a plus.
- Experience with NASA aerospace systems engineering practices in an applied or new-space context is a plus.
- Experience with deep-space or high-radiation avionics systems is advantageous.
- Background in spaceflight hardware environmental testing and qualification is advantageous.
Compensation
- Hiring range is $175,000-$263,000 USD.
- Compensation is determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
- The company also offers salary, equity, paid leave, parental leave, and a learning and development stipend.
