Position Overview

  • To provide a comprehensive Neonatology Service for King’s College Hospital.
  • The post holder will be responsible for the diagnosis and management of patients attending King’s College Hospital – with conditions requiring neonatal expertise.
  • Manage a caseload which includes a wide range of health conditions within King’s College Hospital facilities providing outpatient, inpatient and day case treatments.
  • Ensure the highest standards of care for all patients.
  • To adhere to the manifesto of care expected of all physician at King’s College Hospital.

Key Accountabilities – Clinical

  • Investigate and manage patients attending and admitted to King’s College Hospital across a range of medical specialties.
  • Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice.
  • Review the results of all investigations in a timely fashion and modify treatment as required.
  • Liaise with senior clinicians with regard to decision making for in patient care including carrying out care plans.
  • Conduct daily ward rounds of Neonatology in patients with the consultant.
  • Review patients on a regular basis in accordance with the plan of care made on the ward round.
  • Perform clinical duties under the supervision of the admitting consultant and maintain regular communication with regard to patient management decisions.
  • Take hand over of patients from previous shift specialist in order to ensure continuity of care.
  • Assist with interventional procedures appropriate to the Neonatology specialties and assist in the coordination of post treatment care on the wards.
  • Ensure protocols are followed with regard to obtaining appropriate consent for interventional procedures.
  • Respond to requests by the nursing team and medical colleagues to review the medical condition of patients on the ward.

Clinical Governance & Personal Development

  • Attend all relevant clinical meetings unless on approved leave.
  • Participate fully in all aspects of clinical governance making a significant contribution to clinical audit and risk management activities.
  • Take an active role in identifying and reporting clinical risk.
  • Contribute to standard setting within the organisation.
  • Commit to continual personal development (CPD) and audit to ensure evidence based best practice is followed.
  • Maintain own CPD through attendance at any courses and/or study days necessary to ensure that professional development requirements are met.
  • Take responsibility for individual learning, development and performance and be willing to demonstrate professional activities and skills to peer reviewers.
  • Ensure that a record is maintained of professional development activities in order to inform annual appraisal.

Administrative

  • Effectively manage own time, workload and resources.
  • Comply with the UAE medical health authorities’ requirements in order to maintain medical licence.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of computer based patient records.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all aspects of data management relating to patients, carers, colleagues, and other healthcare workers.
  • Maintain business confidentiality outside the organisation with respect to financial, clinical and administrative activities of King’s College Hospital.

Managerial

  • Assist the Clinical/Medical Director, Deputy CMO and CMO with recruitment of new staff when required.
  • Assume other administrative or clinical duties as needed.
  • Be willing to deputise and delegate when appropriate.
  • Support colleagues with the smooth running of the hospital by providing cover and assistance, during periods of absence.
  • Welcome calls (although infrequent) from the management team, and physician on duty while out of working hours.

Quality

  • Strive to maintain quality in clinical care, alert other team members to issues of quality, and participate in quality improvement activity.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on personal and team activities and identifying potential improvements.
  • Adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, working hours and overtime.
  • Comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment.

Education & Qualification, Experience, Training, Knowledge & Skill

  • UAE Medical Health Authority License (DHA).
  • MBBS & Master’s degree/Post Graduation/ Diploma in related specialty.
  • CCT or completion of a recognized specialist training program is preferable.
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical practice in similar setup.
  • Awareness and understanding of King’s College Hospital (KCH) policies and initiatives.
  • Resuscitation Certificate as per the specialty.
  • Demonstrable ongoing and active Continues Personal Development (CPD).
  • Supports quality patient care by showing empathy, maintaining patient dignity, and following proper protocols.
  • Supports and guides junior team members, offering advice and assistance if required.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
