Job Summary

Perform high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to assist physicians in diagnosing and managing medical conditions.

Prepare patients, operate ultrasound equipment, acquire diagnostic images, ensure patient safety, and maintain accurate documentation.

Work in accordance with DHA regulations, hospital policies, and international diagnostic imaging standards.

Department and Working Conditions

  • The role is based in radiology, diagnostic imaging, outpatient clinic, hospital, or emergency department settings in Dubai.
  • Rotating shifts may include weekends and public holidays according to operational needs.
  • The role may include emergency and bedside ultrasound examinations.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, gynecological, breast, small parts, musculoskeletal, vascular Doppler, renal, and urinary tract ultrasound examinations.
  • Assess patients, obtain clinical history, position patients, and optimize equipment settings.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal findings and acquire diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation.
  • Assist with ultrasound-guided biopsies, aspirations, and drainages where applicable.

Patient Care

  • Explain examination procedures and obtain informed consent where required.
  • Protect patient comfort, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Monitor patients during procedures and respond to adverse events.
  • Provide post-procedure instructions when necessary.

Equipment and Quality Assurance

  • Operate, maintain, and perform routine quality checks on ultrasound equipment.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to Biomedical Engineering.
  • Keep ultrasound rooms clean, organized, and stocked with supplies.
  • Participate in equipment quality assurance and preventive maintenance programs.

Documentation and Safety

  • Document examination details accurately in EMR and RIS.
  • Store diagnostic images correctly in PACS and maintain patient records.
  • Follow infection prevention, probe disinfection, patient identification, confidentiality, and safety procedures.
  • Report incidents, equipment issues, and safety concerns promptly.

Collaboration and Development

  • Collaborate with radiologists, obstetricians and gynecologists, surgeons, emergency physicians, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate scheduling and workflow with nursing and administrative teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case discussions, quality improvement, audits, and accreditation activities.
  • Maintain competency through CPD, CME, mandatory training, and awareness of advances in ultrasound technology.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Medical Imaging, or a related healthcare field.
  • Valid DHA License or DHA Eligibility Letter as a Sonographer.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Minimum 2–3 years of post-qualification experience as a Sonographer in a hospital or diagnostic imaging center.
  • Experience in general ultrasound, obstetric and gynecological imaging, and Doppler studies is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a DHA-licensed healthcare facility is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficiency in diagnostic ultrasound examinations and strong knowledge of ultrasound anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment and optimize image quality.
  • Familiarity with PACS, RIS, and EMR.
  • Strong communication, patient care, attention to detail, analytical, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills.
  • Knowledge of DHA regulations, radiation safety principles where applicable, and healthcare quality standards.

Performance and Compliance

Performance is assessed through image quality, diagnostic adequacy, patient satisfaction, documentation accuracy, regulatory compliance, equipment maintenance, productivity, quality improvement participation, CPD/CME activity, infection prevention, and patient safety.
