SOC Operations

  • Own 24x7 monitoring, triage, investigation, incident response, escalation paths, and on-call coverage.
  • Define and enforce SOC runbooks, playbooks, SLAs, and quality standards.
  • Serve as incident commander for P1/P2 security incidents and coordinate with stakeholders through resolution and post-incident review.

Team Development

  • Recruit, onboard, and retain L1-L3 analysts, threat hunters, and detection engineers.
  • Manage shift rosters, capacity, career paths, performance goals, and regular reviews.
  • Run structured training, tabletop exercises, and purple-team sessions.

Detection and Response Maturity

  • Own detection engineering, including use-case development, tuning, false-positive reduction, and coverage mapping against MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Lead SOAR automation to reduce manual effort in repetitive triage and enrichment.
  • Integrate cyber threat intelligence into detection content, hunting hypotheses, and stakeholder advisories.
  • Evaluate and tune SIEM, EDR/XDR, NDR, email security, and cloud security telemetry.

Governance and Reporting

  • Define and report SOC KPIs and KRIs, including MTTD, MTTR, alert fidelity, coverage, SLA adherence, and analyst utilization.
  • Maintain SOC documentation and audit evidence for frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, and NIST CSF.
  • Manage SOC tooling budgets, vendor relationships, licensing, renewals, and business cases for new capabilities.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Present incident summaries, threat briefings, and service performance to senior leadership and client stakeholders.
  • Advise on security posture improvements arising from SOC findings.
  • Support pre-sales with SOC service scoping, SLAs, and onboarding of new clients where applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of cybersecurity experience, including at least 3 years managing or leading a SOC or incident response team in a 24x7 operational environment.
  • Experience running a SOC within an MSSP or large enterprise serving multiple business units or clients.
  • Hands-on experience with SIEM, EDR/XDR, and SOAR platforms.
  • Incident command experience on major incidents from detection through recovery and lessons learned.
  • Strong understanding of attacker tradecraft, MITRE ATT&CK, the cyber kill chain, and threat-informed defense.
  • Knowledge of network, endpoint, identity, email, and cloud security telemetry and log sources.
  • Experience reporting SOC metrics and SLAs to executive audiences.
  • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining security analysts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more GIAC, CISSP, CISM, or vendor certifications is strongly preferred.
  • Experience standing up or transforming a SOC is desirable.
  • Threat hunting, detection-as-code, digital forensics, malware analysis, OT/ICS, cloud-native, regulatory framework, scripting, or automation experience is desirable.
