Senior Technicians Two (2) Regular positions (1 Civil, 1 Electrical) Mactaquac, New Brunswick, Canada Salary range: $37.64 to $48.10 hourly based on 40 hours per week Competition # E22651-2026

The Mactaquac Generating Station began generating electricity in 1968. Since the 1980s, concrete portions of the hydro station have been affected by a chemical reaction called alkali-aggregate reaction. The reaction causes the concrete to swell and crack and has required substantial annual maintenance and repairs. NB Power is proposing a project to ensure the station can operate to its intended 100-year lifespan with a modified approach to maintenance and adjusting and replacing equipment and concrete over time.
As part of the Mactaquac Life Achievement Project, both the Senior Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls and Civil Technicians are responsible for overseeing and coordinating all on-site construction activities, ensuring they align with contract documents, drawings, and specifications. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the project is executed safely, on time, on budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Civil key functions include
Oversee day-to-day construction activities, ensure alignment with project scope, schedule, safety, and quality standards, and coordinate site logistics and stakeholder interfaces.
Track progress, maintain daily reporting, manage scope changes, support claims negotiations, and ensure accurate documentation and project controls.
Guide contractors and internal teams, develop direct reports, foster a high-performance culture, and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
Our ideal teammate will have
Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology
Six years of experience in construction projects in hydro generation or heavy industrial. This includes surveying with strong knowledge of construction contracts, drawings, codes, and specifications
Skilled in planning, scheduling, look-ahead coordination, and progress reporting
Proficient in managing field activities, contractor coordination, project controls, and change management
Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership abilities, with experience mentoring or managing teams
Proficient with construction scheduling tools and Microsoft Office suite (Project, Excel, Word, Outlook)
Design experience and PMP or equivalent project management certification are considered assets
Electrical key functions include
Oversee day-to-day Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls construction and commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, safety requirements, and quality standards, while coordinating site electrical work, system integration, and stakeholder interfaces.
Track progress of electrical and instrumentation installations, maintain daily reporting, manage scope changes, support contract and claims processes, and ensure accurate documentation, testing records, and project controls for EI&C systems.
Provide technical guidance to electrical contractors and multidisciplinary teams, support development of direct reports, promote a high-performance and safety-focused culture, and collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, and commissioning teams.

One of the following:
Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology
Industrial Control Technology Diploma
Instrumentation/Control Technology Diploma
And
Six years of experience in construction projects in hydro generation, EI&C systems, or heavy industrial environments, with strong knowledge of electrical and instrumentation installation practices, construction contracts, drawings, codes, and technical specifications
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified. An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
