Fitch Ratings is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its global Ratings Technology team in Manchester.
The role builds and maintains mission-critical full-stack applications used by ratings analysts and decision-makers.
The applications support ratings workflows and analytical use cases across financial markets.

- The role is based in the Manchester office with hybrid flexibility.
Technology environment
- The technology stack includes Python, React, AWS, Kubernetes, and emerging AI technologies.
- The role also uses Java, Node.js, TypeScript or JavaScript, relational databases, NoSQL databases, and Bash.
Core responsibilities
- Build robust, scalable applications using Python, FastAPI or Flask, and ReactJS.
- Write maintainable code, implement CI/CD with GitHub Actions, deploy to Kubernetes, and support testing and code reviews.
- Develop database solutions using relational and NoSQL technologies, optimize queries, and maintain data integrity.
- Collaborate with product managers, analysts, and engineers to deliver business-focused solutions.
- Apply engineering principles and design patterns while contributing to code quality.
- Troubleshoot production issues, optimize performance, and support application reliability at scale.
- Experiment with emerging technologies, share knowledge, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Required qualifications
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience building enterprise applications and modern web technologies in production.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, design patterns, SOLID principles, algorithms, and data structures.
- Proficiency in Python for enterprise applications, data processing, and API development.
- Experience with ReactJS, Node.js, TypeScript or JavaScript, and modern web development practices.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Kubernetes, Bash automation, and AWS.
- Clear communication and cross-functional teamwork skills.
Additional qualifications
- AI or machine learning experience, including LLMs, prompt engineering, or AI integration, would be an advantage.
- Experience with Kafka, PySpark, Parquet, Avro, Apache Airflow, or Streamlit would be an advantage.
- Database architecture, observability, ArgoCD, GitOps, Entra ID, or financial services experience would be an advantage.
