Responsibilities
- Take overall technical authority, responsibility and accountability for the optical designs
- Derive a design from functional requirements
- Perform trade off analysis based on functional requirements
- Develop optical conceptual design and support optical fabrication requirements
- Generate technical documentation such as design description, design performance analysis reports, technical notes, assembly procedures
- Lead integration and testing of optical components and subsystems
- Lead department engineers, technicians and technologists
- Support development of optical subsystems that encompass industrial/mechanical design
- Use ZEMAX to perform design and analysis for optical components
- Develop models and simulations of key optical subsystems
- Design optical elements for both visible light and IR cameras
- Setup the optical laboratory for development project concepts
Requirements
- PhD or Master's degree in Physics or Optics
- 20+ years of industrial experience in optical design in close relation to the defense sector
- Expert in working with optical elements and lenses elements design
- Expert level in the use of ZEMAX tools
- Track record of design of IR cameras for defense sector
- Proven leadership and innovation skills
- Proficiency in the English language

Core Accountabilities
- Take the overall technical authority, responsibility and accountability for the optical designs.
- Ability to derive a design from functional requirements.
- Perform trade off analysis based on the functional requirement.
- Develop optical conceptual design and support optical fabrication requirement.
- Generate technical documentation such as design description, design performance analysis reports, technical notes, assembly procedures.
- Lead Integration and testing of optical components subsystem.
- Lead department engineers, technician and technologist.
- Support the development of optical subsystems that encompass industrial/mechanical design.
- Use ZEMAX to perform design and analysis for optical components.
- Optical system analysis and modelling utilizing programming and software tools.
- Develop models and simulations of key optical subsystems.
- Design or selection of the adequate lenses from the functional requirement.
Support Accountabilities
- Optical labs supervision.
- Purchase of optical equipment.
- Supervision the setup of a clean room and optical benches.
- Work closely with the opto electronics team in the design of multiple types of cameras.
- Involvement in the optical sensors selection.
Experience
- 20+ years of industrial experience in optical design in close relation to the defense sector.
- Expert in working with optical elements and lenses elements design.
- Expert level in the use of ZEMAX tools.
- Track record of design of IR cameras for defense sector.
- Proven leadership and innovation skills.
Knowledge / Qualification
- PhD or Master’s degree in Physics or Optics.
