Join Our Team: Senior Engineer Network Planning Power - Transmission at EtihadWE

We are seeking a talented and experienced Senior Engineer – Network Planning (Power Transmission).

In this key role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic transmission network plans to support the reliability, stability, and expansion of the power system infrastructure.

The role involves conducting power system studies, evaluating transmission network performance, and supporting the integration of conventional generation, renewable energy, and emerging technologies into the grid.

You will also ensure that transmission planning activities align with regulatory requirements, grid codes, operational efficiency standards, and EtihadWE’s long-term business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct transmission network planning studies including load flow, short circuit, contingency, transient stability, and power quality analysis using industry-standard software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Develop short-term, medium-term, and long-term transmission system expansion plans in compliance with grid codes, regulatory standards, and reliability requirements.
  • Perform grid interconnection and feasibility studies for generation projects, renewable energy plants, battery energy storage systems (BESS), HVDC systems, and large customer connections.
  • Evaluate network performance, system adequacy, and transmission constraints, and recommend reinforcement plans and remedial actions to ensure secure and reliable grid operation.
  • Review and validate RMS and EMT simulation models for renewable energy projects and ensure compliance with grid connection and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct dynamic model acceptance testing (DMAT), benchmarking studies, and grid compliance assessments in accordance with transmission regulatory frameworks and utility standards.
  • Assess system strength, reactive power capability, voltage stability, frequency response, and fault ride-through performance for transmission-connected projects.
  • Coordinate with internal departments, consultants, OEMs, developers, and regulatory authorities on technical matters related to network planning and grid integration studies.
  • Prepare technical reports, planning recommendations, engineering studies, and presentation materials for management review and regulatory submissions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of transmission planning databases, simulation models, and system study methodologies.
  • Participate in the evaluation and planning of advanced transmission technologies including FACTS devices, STATCOMs, HVDC systems, and renewable integration solutions.
  • Contribute to annual system adequacy assessments and long-term strategic planning initiatives to support future network growth and reliability.
  • Ensure all planning studies and engineering activities comply with applicable transmission codes, international standards, and company policies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing initiatives related to transmission planning, power system analysis, and grid integration studies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) or a related field
  • Master’s degree in Power Systems Engineering, Energy Systems, or relevant professional certification is preferred
  • Strong knowledge of transmission systems, grid codes, power system performance analysis, and network planning methodologies
  • Proficiency in power system analysis and simulation software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, or PowerWorld
  • Experience in renewable energy integration, BESS, HVDC, and transmission expansion planning is preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities
  • Strong understanding of power network systems, performance analysis, and optimization techniques.
