Role Overview
Own production database operations, performance engineering, schema safety, and database documentation for Deel’s global platform.
Work with SQL Server and Azure SQL in a multi-tenant, multi-country production environment.
Production Operations
- Monitor, triage, and resolve SQL Server incidents involving performance, deadlocks, blocking, and index contention.
- Own Zabbix alerting, including threshold tuning, tag and host hygiene, and reducing alert noise without blind spots.
- Execute production data corrections using pre-check, execution, post-check, and commit or rollback procedures.
- Manage Azure SQL compute allocation across regions and evaluate compute isolation when traffic patterns justify it.
Performance Engineering
- Read SQL Server execution plans end-to-end and identify costly operators and root causes.
- Apply tactical fixes such as plan hints, index additions, and statistics updates while tracking structural fixes as technical debt.
- Design indexes using key order, included columns, covering or partial strategies, and online builds.
