Position summary
The Senior Contracts Engineer manages and administers contractual matters throughout the construction project lifecycle.
The role focuses on construction contracts, FIDIC, variations, claims, extensions of time, contractual notices, subcontract administration, and commercial coordination.
The position is intended for an experienced contracts professional in the construction and contracting industry.
Key responsibilities
- Administer main contracts and subcontracts from award through completion and close-out.
- Review contracts, specifications, BOQs, drawings, obligations, conditions, notice requirements, and milestones.
- Prepare contractual notices, letters, claims, variation submissions, and other contractual correspondence.
- Evaluate variations, changes, additional works, omissions, delay, disruption, prolongation, and entitlement issues.
- Prepare and substantiate EOT and other contractual claims, coordinating delay analysis with the Planning team.
- Review responses to notices, claims, instructions, and correspondence from project stakeholders.
- Monitor subcontractor compliance and review subcontractor claims, variations, EOT requests, payment matters, and final accounts.
- Maintain registers and records for contracts, variations, claims, notices, instructions, correspondence, risks, and exposures.
- Support negotiation of variations, claims, commercial settlements, final accounts, release of securities, and claims settlement.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Commercial, Quantity Surveying, Planning, Procurement, Engineering, and Site teams.
- Escalate significant contractual risks and maintain documentation protecting the company’s contractual and commercial position.
- Prepare regular reports and support contract close-out, completion documentation, and handover of outstanding contractual matters.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- 8–12 years of relevant contracts experience in the construction and contracting industry.
- Strong main-contractor experience is essential.
- Experience with high-rise buildings, villas, villa communities, and residential developments.
- UAE or GCC construction experience is required.
- Hands-on experience with FIDIC, claims, EOT, variations, contractual notices, subcontract administration, and final accounts.
