Role Overview
The Structural Engineer will manage, inspect, evaluate, and coordinate structural engineering activities associated with facilities.
The role covers structural inspections, corrective maintenance, repair works, technical assessments, contractor coordination, quality control, and engineering documentation.
Structural Inspection and Assessment
- Inspect steel bridge elements, box girders, pontoons, machinery pits, concrete structures, access platforms, ladders, supports, and associated bridge components.
- Identify defects including deterioration, corrosion, cracking, deformation, water leakage, coating failures, and concrete spalling.
- Prepare inspection reports, technical assessments, condition reports, and repair recommendations.
Repair and Maintenance Delivery
- Develop and review repair methodologies for structural steel, reinforced concrete, bridge components, and marine structures.
- Coordinate maintenance work orders from initiation through execution, inspection, approval, and closure.
- Supervise steel replacement, welding repairs, strengthening, crack repair, concrete repair, grouting, and protective coating works.
Technical Review and Coordination
- Review structural drawings, shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, inspection and test plans, risk assessments, and technical calculations.
- Review welding procedures, welder qualifications, non-destructive testing requirements, material certificates, and applicable standards.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and PLC/SCADA engineers where structural works interface with bridge operating systems.
Reporting and Compliance
- Prepare technical proposals, repair sketches, scopes of work, bills of quantities, cost estimates, presentations, and progress reports.
- Ensure works comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, safety procedures, and project standards.
- Maintain engineering records including reports, photographs, test results, approvals, and work-order closure documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
- Minimum 8 years of overall structural engineering experience.
- Minimum 4 years of practical experience in bridge, marine, infrastructure, or heavy structural-steel projects.
- Professional engineering certification or chartered status is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of UAE experience is preferred.
- RTA projects, bridge maintenance, or movable bridge systems experience is advantageous.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong practical and site-execution knowledge.
- Ability to independently assess structural defects and recommend repair solutions.
- Strong technical-report writing, documentation, communication, and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple work orders and priorities.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and standard Microsoft Office applications.
- Structural-analysis software familiarity is advantageous, and Maximo or similar maintenance-management system knowledge is beneficial.
