Role Purpose
The Senior Business Developer – Renewables & Batteries is responsible for originating, structuring, and securing new growth opportunities across renewable and low‑carbon energy sectors.
The role focuses on building a robust project and partnership pipeline, supporting investments from early development through financial close, and contributing to the company’s long-term energy transition strategy.
Market & Opportunity Origination
- Identify and originate business opportunities in renewable and low-carbon energy sectors, including **solar PV, wind, battery energy storage (BESS).**
- Manage and oversee the end-to-end bid and proposal process, managing cross-functional teams, overseeing and reviewing all bids, and leading the design and submission of competitive proposals to offtakers in GCC region, in line with our business development strategies, plans and standards.
- Conduct market assessments covering regulation, tariffs, PPA structures, grid access, and incentive mechanisms
- Analyse competitor landscape, technology trends, and policy developments impacting renewable investments
Project & Deal Development
- Lead opportunity screening from early-stage development through investment approval and financial close
- Coordinate feasibility studies, site origination, permitting strategy, and stakeholder mapping
- Once a development decision is made, ensure the development of the proposal by managing cross-functional bid teams, assigning roles and communicating clear expectations to each team member who will be contributing to the proposal and to writing the tender for the services and sub contracts ensuring strict adherence to quality standards and to timelines.
- Ensure the development and proposal of a solution and approach that meet offtaker’s requirements and display an understanding of their needs that would maximize the chance of winning the work.
- Develop and ensure execution of all necessary bid and proposal procedures, governance, and processes in order to ensure consistent approaches are applied across
- Take responsibility for reviewing any questions or clarifications required from the client and arranging for answers.
- Arrange all post bid reviews, as well as post contract award clarifications
- Support development of commercial structures such as **PPAs…**
Commercial & Financial Leadership
- Lead or support commercial negotiations with offtakers, partners, and public entities
- Contribute to financial modelling, valuation, risk assessment, and return optimization
- Coordinate with internal finance, technical, legal, tax, and ESG teams to deliver bankable, investment-grade opportunities
- Act as the first point of contact for the client, and liaise with main EPC contractor, sub-contractors, vendors and estimators who produce the price element of a bid.
- Compile, edit, and proof read commercial proposals which contain technical content and designs ensuring that these are presented in a professional and concise manner.
- Ensure the proposal of a pricing structure that will maximize the winning potential for a bid while ensuring that the required project profitability targets are met.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strategic partnerships with developers, utilities, equipment suppliers, investors, and public authorities
- Represent the company in high-level negotiations, consortiums, and industry forums
- Engage with regulators and policymakers where required to support project development
Strategy & Portfolio Growth
- Contribute to regional and technology-specific growth strategies aligned with energy transition goals
- Support portfolio optimization and M&A or asset acquisition initiatives where applicable
- Provide regular pipeline reporting, strategic insights, and recommendations to senior leadership
Governance, ESG & Risk
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, ethics, and investment approval processes
- Integrate ESG, sustainability, and environmental considerations into project development and partner selection
- Identify and manage commercial, regulatory, and execution risks
Key Performance Indicators (Kpis)
- Size and quality of renewable energy project pipeline (MW / investment value)
- Successful progression of projects to financial close
- Revenue, IRR, and value creation from new investments
- Strategic partnerships established and markets entered
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy, Finance, Economics, or Business
- MBA or Master’s degree in Energy or Finance is an advantage
Experience
- 8–12+ years of experience in **energy, renewables, power generation, or infrastructure development**
- Proven track record in developing and closing large scale renewable or infrastructure projects
- Experience with IPP models, project finance, and long-term offtake arrangements
Technical & Commercial
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies and power markets
- Solid financial and commercial acumen, including project finance fundamentals
- Ability to structure complex multi-party transactions
Leadership & Communication
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence senior executives, partners, and public stakeholders
- Comfortable working across multicultural and matrix organizations
